day after Mom's Day
2006-05-15 - 10:52 a.m.

What a fabulous first Mother's Day I had. My son and hubby are simply the best. I'm now innundated with flowers and have a completely clean house. Rock on! I didn't even have to change any poopy diapers yesterday. Woo hoo! We checked out a new church yesterday. The changes in the Catholic Church since the election of the new pope really have me questioning my loyalties. My mom had always taught me to take the good that the church has to offer and leave the rest, but it's becoming hard to ignore how my very liberal, very tolerant mindset doesn't jive with the Church's worldview. Over the last decade, my spirituality hasn't changed, but my religiousity has -- I've gotten older, and little wiser, and a little more willing to question, and a lot more willing to take charge of the direction my life goes in. Anyway, the hubby suggested we check out the Unitarian Universalist church, so we went to their service. The verdict is still out, but it was interesting and I'm willing to go again. I do at least like their credo very much. After church, we went for brunch and then took Ryan to meet his great-grandma. Oh my god, did her face light up like I've never seen! It was so wonderful. Ryan's lucky to have so many great-grandparents (3) and all his grandparents. I've always considered myself blessed to have my grandparents in my life still. There's so much to learn from them. My father's mom has nearly a century of the human experience under her belt. It was pretty awesome to look at the contrast between her and her great-grandson as he sat on her lap. Good stuff, good stuff indeed. At the end of the day, my mom provided us all with an inspirational quote from Mother Teresa - "We cannot all do great works, but we can all do little works with great love." Something to remember.
