Whelp, I got some sewing done in time for the Beltane event out here. I culled together my memories of the nursing cote, that apparently no one but me has ever seen (oh well) and devised a pattern off the Herjolfnses tunics. Naturally, the old pattern I have no longer fits, so I had to draft an entirely new one. I thought it'd be like riding a bike. I mean, how many of these things did I make for people of all shapes and sizes back in the day? Alas, it was not bike-like for me. Somehow the waist and sleeve openings ended up hella low. So, I did the obvious and just pulled up the shoulder seams. This displaced the boobs, but not so much that it was noticable with the muslin mock-up and with the linen, it ended up just right. But I forgot that it'd change the size of the sleeve holes by quite a bit... and boy oh boy did it. It didn't seem like I had to gather it all that much though. And of course, I didn't bother trying it on until I had the sleeves set, double stitched, and the seams felled. Ha. What a dumb ass. I put it on and got transported back to the early 80s. Can we say princess pouf sleeve anyone? It also messed with the shoulder seam placement. It sits a little too far back. Not so much that it's noticable, just so much that it wants to pull the neckline backward. Weee. And the hood I made to coverup is cut just long enough over the shoulder to flare straight out. I'm hoping a crap load of fabric softener will fix that. If not, I'm sewing pennies into the hem to weight it down :)Now to decide if I want to take the time to fix it... or more to the point, if I have the time to fix it. I still have to finish something for Ryan to wear. It will be way too warm for him to wear the wool stuff he has.
