Oh my freaking gawd... baptizing this baby is proving to be a MAJOR PITA. As I've written about before, I think, the Catholic church requires Godparents, and they require that the prospective Godparents be members in good standing, which they define as having had all the Sacraments pertaining to them -- so, if single, they have to have been confirmed, and if married, they have to have been married in a Catholic church. This criterion eliminates all the potential Godparents we thought about. None are single and none were married fellow Catholics and thus weren't married in the Church. So, my local parish recommended that I choose my own parents as Godparents. Nevermind that since they're significantly older than me, the chances of me outliving them while my son is still in need of tutelage is pretty high. Whatever. My folks said they'd do it.

So that leaves the matter that we all have to take a class in preparation for the baptism. My parents have 7 Godchildren, they've had this class before. But they still need to take it again. Whatever. They'll take it. So then you have the little matter than the church doesn't want you to bring the infant to the class. This requires that I find a babysitter, for my 2 month old. HELLO. New mom here living in a neighborhood where I don't know anyone well enough to leave my son with them. My folks are my regular sitters. But obviously they can't do it.

So, we decided we'd baptize the boy at my childhood church which is near my folks and where there are friends with whom I'd would be willing to leave the boy. Apparently this requires that I get PERMISSION from my local parish, even though I'm not actually a member of their registry. Why they have to register me and then give permission is absolutely beyond me. So now one more hoop to freaking jump through.

I'm just waiting until they find out I didn't annul my first marriage... maybe they just won't ask if I was married before :)
