those were the days
2006-02-27 - 12:27 p.m.

In the last few months I've gotten quite a number of emails out of the blue from old, old friends and people I hardly knew back in my high school days. I remembered the names, but a few of them required that I look in my yearbook to remember who they were. One of them is my oldest living friend -- we met as toddlers. She was in my first wedding, but then we lost touch when she moved to the St. Thomas or one of those islands to work in the hotel industry. I've been Googling her for years with no luck and then out of the blue, here comes an email via classmat3s.com.

It's cool to reconnect after so many years. It's taking me back a long ways! Back to the days when I spend every afternoon sitting in the back of the Upstart Crow, a coffeehouse/bookstore (back when such establishments had a personality, not like the B&N/Starbuck$ combo that we have today). Back to the underground clubs like Club X that started in little wearhouses downtown and moved to roller rinks in the burbs. Back when San Jose had a scene and the mid-80s were fresh, not retro :)

Ah, the good ol days.

Maybe I'll go throw on my Docs, dye my hair blue with KoolAid and have a moment.

Or maybe I'll put Ryan in his CBGB's onesie and live it vicariously.
